How To Make A Writer Smile

One of the highlights of my week arrived in the form of an email that really made my day.

It came from a reader who read Wintercraft/Shadowcry last month and passed it around his friends.  Some of them are reading Blackwatch right now and while they wait for each other to catch up, these fans of the series have given themselves a name.

Most of them picked Silas as their favourite character, so they have chosen a symbol of loyalty and companionship; the one character who always stands at Silas's side without question.

They call themselves 'The Crows'.
I think that's a brilliant idea!

They have many theories about what's going to happen next (they are definitely in for a few surprises...) and they have already started a countdown to the next book's release!

It's great to hear from people who are excited and talking to each other about the books.  If you're enjoying them, do let me know.

I am proud to call myself a 'Crow'.  How about you?

  5. Jenna,
Thank you SO very much for writing Shadowcry (Wintercraft). I am a teen librarian in Kansas City, Missouri, U.S. and I just finished this first book. Finished is actually a poor word to use--I savoured this book the entire time I was reading.
I read an inordinate amount of young adult fiction (both for my job and because I LOVE it), and it is rare to come across an author who takes her time in building the story and characters and creates such a rich product as you have. I can't wait for Blackwatch (and others!) to be released in the States; I may have to order a UK copy just to continue soaking up this story! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  6. Hello Erin,
Thank you for your wonderful comment. It's lovely to hear from you!
Kate and Silas's world really does feel alive to me. I've just finished writing the third book in the series, and the history (and future) of their world is always ticking away in the back of my mind.
I'm in the middle of writing a story set in a very different place at the moment, but I think Albion will always call me back.

  8. Hello Candie.
I'm glad you enjoyed the story!
I've spread the word about your competition and I hope you get some wonderful character name suggestions. (Number 3 looks like a Miranda to me.)

  11. I feel so behind:( I couldn't get shadowcry or Blackwatch until a couple months ago and I heard a new one already came out , but I can't get it yet I'm so sad:'( I love Silas, Kate and Edgar...<3
The other day I was sitting in class reading when I'm not supposed to again and I got an idea, but I don't know how good it is. I think you should write an actual wintercraft like the one Da'Ru dug out of the grave and have the same size and everything, but then there might be a bunch of people slicing open their hands, trying to perform the bonding...
